Where we serve.

Haiti

When Haiti was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492 it was called the Pearl of the Antilles because of its natural beauty and abundant resources. Independent since 1804, Haiti has struggled with political unrest, dictators, and military coups, and has been one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. On the UN’s Human Development Index, Haiti ranked 170 out of 189 countries in 2020. It deserves a fresh start and a return to being the pearl of the Caribbean.

Haiti is known as “the republic of NGOs” because of its heavy dependence on foreign aid. The Haitian people live in daily instability due to the lack of a self-sustaining economy. The greatest need, as well as the best solution, is jobs. Training skilled workers and creating job opportunities for the majority of the population living under the poverty line will sustain individual families, and communities, and bring stability to the country as a whole. Other positive outcomes include orphan prevention, higher education, and accessibility to healthcare. Empowering local people and communities will put the country back in the hands of the Haitian people – a lasting impact for future generations to come.
