A Special School Day

May 1st, 2024

Our Agro-Food-Cultural Day on May 1st was one to remember for so many reasons! Our students dressed up in traditional Afro-Haitian outfits, learned about all the fruits + veggies grown in Haiti, and ate Bouillon (traditional Haitian soup).

It is also the Haitian tradition to plant trees on May 1st. Our entire school walked together to our land, the future site of our school, hand in hand with our oldest class holding the hands of our youngest class. Together, our inaugural class of Impact International Institute of Haiti planted the first trees on the future site of our school! They will get to watch the trees grow each year and hopefully eat from the first fruits of the mangos, avocados, lemons, and soursop trees!

Traditional Afro-Haitian Outfits

To celebrate the Haitian culture, our students came to school dressed in traditional Afro-Haitian outfits. Some of the parents found African fabric and custom-made their outfits of the day. It was a wonderful way to honor their history and tradition.

Agriculture in Haiti

Each school day, our students eat from the organically grown foods of Haiti. On this special day, the parents brought and showcased a huge variety of produce grown in this country. The little ones are learning to appreciate the earth we live in.

Planting Trees

Each year on May 1st, the start of the rainy season, it is the Haitian tradition to plant trees. Our first inaugural class took a field trip and planted trees on the land of the future site of our school. May they watch these trees grow and eat from their fruits!
