Celebrating Haitian Roots

May 1st is Labor and Agriculture Day, a very special holiday in Haiti. People across the nation take time on this day to honor the country’s laborers and agricultural workers. This national holiday is often marked with large community gatherings, mouthwatering food fairs, and colorful parades. May 1st also marks the beginning of Haitian Heritage Month and the celebration of Haitian history, culture, and contributions. It is a moment where traditions are brought to life, and being a Haitian is a point of pride. 

Honoring Farmers

Schools are typically closed for the day, but we chose to use it to celebrate Haitian Heritage, the hardworking farmers, and all the locally grown fruits and vegetables they bring every year! Teachers and students alike arrived at school dressed as industrious farmers or in lovely traditional African attire. The entire school came together to create a great spread of local food and tasty treats for all to share in.

Enduring Hope

Despite everything the country has endured these past years, these good people keep finding the strength to rise again and persevere. As Haitian Heritage Month begins in the U.S., we agree there’s no better time to celebrate and share that special, enduring hope for the future together.
