A Message From Elisha: Happy Thanksgiving Week! I'm not doing a Turkey Run this week... but in less than two weeks, I will be riding 177 miles in four days with our team, which is what it would take to bike across Haiti to reach our school in Fond Doux! Why?? My goal is to raise $19,200, which represents feeding 48 students two meals a day for the entire school year. (It only costs $400 to feed one child for the school year to fight childhood hunger!) You've probably seen Haiti in the news last week. The airspace remains closed due to shots fired at planes in the air, and gangs now control 80% of the capital. The situation is devastating. Last week, we had to helicopter evacuate our Haiti director out of Port-au-Prince. (I'll share more about this very soon.) But I am not giving up. At this time, an entire generation of children is being forgotten. Children are running for their lives and sheltering in different buildings in the capital for safety. I can't even imagine the trauma that these children are facing. Since I was a little girl, my mom would tell me the importance of a good education. When I was 8 years old, she sent me away from Hong Kong to live in the United States, so I could receive the best education possible. In 2013, I became the first person in my family to graduate from a university - UCLA! When I came out of the stadium and saw my mom, my tears came gushing out because I was reminded of all the sacrifices my mom made and all that I had given up in my childhood for this very moment. The glass ceiling was broken. In 2023, at a KAIROS moment, together with our team in America and Haiti, we launched our school called Impact International Institute of Haiti - a place where we are raising up future leaders and change-makers of our world! At a time when Haiti is on the brink of breaking, we have established a safe space for the next generation to grow - we are planting and watering seeds of a new generation that will change this world for the better!
