It’s Time For School!

CLOTHING THE CHILDREN

UNIFORMS HAVE ARRIVED! We hand-delivered these precious shirts, along with school supplies + food to Fond Doux. School uniforms in Haiti are not just for the appearance or reputation of the school. It actually meets a physical need. Most families can’t afford to buy their kids clothes for the entire school year and uniforms save them so much money. This year, our school is clothing 48 little ones! Uniforms also help bring equality into schools for kids of different family backgrounds to prevent discrimination.

This year, our uniforms even provided a job for a local seamster. We hired the father of one of our students, Samuel, to sew on the school patches. We met Samuel’s grandma over 12 years ago. She was known as the fallen tree lady because there was a giant tree that fell and nearly missed her house. Who would have known that one day her son would be sewing our uniforms and her grandson would be in our school?

CAPTURING CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

PICTURE DAY WAS SO MUCH FUN! This year, we watched the kids shine in front of the camera. We watched their individual personalities come out through their poses + big smiles. What a difference one year makes!

Shout out to our staff for keeping the energy up all day + repeating “SOURI!” (SMILE!) probably more than 100 times! And there may have been some candy involved 😅

Schools in our area don’t have resources for a picture day. But it is important to us to be able to give these photos to their parents and preserve childhood memories.

There is SO MUCH JOY in our school.

When the kids enter our gates, they are in a safe space where they can truly thrive. They have access to books, toys, coloring, and so many supplies they don’t have at home. And they get to go home with full bellies. We’ve seen these kids grow in confidence after our first year. Now, we can’t wait to watch them grow into the leaders they are created to be.
